Phonics & Reading
At Holbrook we follow the Sounds Write scheme and believe that all children deserve the opportunity to become confident, fluent readers. We begin our phonics lessons from the first day our Reception pupils are in full time. The initial sounds we will be learning are: a, i, m, s, t. These can be used to build words such as it, am, mat, sat, sit. Within our phonics lessons children have the opportunity to learn new sounds, recognise the sounds previously taught, build words using the sounds they have learnt, write words and read stories containing the sounds they already know.
